Ethics in Science
If you are using animals or people in your project you will need to consider ethics and may need to request approval.
Animal Ethics
All experiments using animals as a research subject must read the ethical considerations and Guidelines for School Students. If necessary you must complete and request approval of the Animal Ethics Application form (there are deadlines the next one being
22 May,19 June and 21 August, and applications should be in two weeks prior) and send to animalethicscommittee@nzase.org.nz or
Schools’ Animal Ethics Committee,
PO Box 10122,
WELLINGTON

Human Ethics
Although an ethical application form is not necessary when involving humans in a research study at schools, it is important you understand and consider ethics. You should be requesting consent forms and If you are doing projects with people under 16 years of age you will need to have their parents complete a consent form.
Further information:
To learn more about considerations when using people in experiments please read the following document, it has good examples of science fair projects.
